We love Halloween time! It’s that time of year when the days become a little shorter, the air becomes a little crisper, and the creepy feeling of all things spooky sets upon us. So it was a perfect time of year to take part in a Halloween Steampunk Wedding Inspiration shoot. As the setting of the Halloween styled shoot, we were fortunate to use the streets one of Maryland’s most haunted places, Fells Point.

Fells Point in Baltimore has a long history not only with scary stories, but also with scary story tellers. There’s a longstanding rumor that the master of macabre himself, Edgar Allan Poe even had his last drink in a Fells Point bar, ‘The Horse You Came In On Saloon’ shortly before he was found deliriously wandering the streets on October 3rd 1849. He died just a few days later on October 7th at Baltimore’s Washington Medical College.

Another well known haunted location is the Admiral Fell‘s Hotel. Guests have said that ghosts make loud noises in the empty rooms of the hotel. Many occurrences have been unexplained for years. Because Fells Point was at one point know for it’s shady bars and brothels, it is thought that the ghosts that haunt the Admiral Fell’s are mobsters from generations past.

Even though our photo session wasn’t quite as scary as the area’s history, it definitely had its share of costume-y elements and vibes throughout. The creative planners behind the shoot were Tanesha and Louise at A Spoonful of Planning. Their vision for this shoot was to use the world of Steampunk.

What is Steampunk? A science fiction-like style that mixes industry with the Victorian age. The aesthetic is homage to an era that used stem-engine technology with details consisting of brass, and clock mechanics such as wheels and springs. Subsequently, it mixes the past with was what is very much the future.

Models Rachel, Erica, Alisa and Matthew certainly did a great job styling the outfits.  Although we shot the majority of portraits outside on the cobblestone streets, our venue Pitango Gelato fit the mood quite nicely (and had an amazing staff).

The bold patterned table settings and backdrop made of old newsprint fit the steampunk theme very well. Additionally, the halloween skeleton props laid throughout were perfect for the upcoming holiday. At the center of it all, was a beautiful cake made by All in the Mix Bakery from Annapolis, MD. Featuring gears, wheels and metal colored elements, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer look.

It was so nice to work with a crew this fun and who worked together so well.  Everyone had a very chill vibe and we had fun being part of their team!
